UU Young Adult Prophets seminar: Religious Humanism in Response to State Violence
Keynote address
Religion, Torture and Human Rights
by Rev. William Schultz,
past President of the UUA and Executive Director of Amnesty International, USA at 7pm on May 2nd

Bill Schulz served for twelve years as Executive Director of Amnesty
International USA. During his term, Amnesty broke with its past and began
protecting victims of torture within the US just as it has always protected
victims of torture in the rest of the world. In this presentation, Rev.
Schulz will help us understand how he was able to lead this shift and the
relationship between religion, Jesus’ crucifixion, torture and the United
States' sense of its own exceptionalism.

What is the UU Prophets Project?
Since 1998, The Prophets Project has been examining our long UU history of social action in conversation with radical leaders and elders who have had long-term involvement in social justice movements and Unitarian Universalism.

This, our seventh seminar, will take place from May 4 – 6th in Boston, MA, following the keynote address of Rev. Schulz. We invite anyone interested in Unitarian Universalist history, identity and action to come and participate. We extend a special welcome to UU Seminarians and Young Adults.
